Bird Brain

"Bird Brain"
15" x 19" - Watercolor and Mixed Media - March 2013

This was an assignment I made up for my art class. As I near the end of my senior year of high school, I wanted to create a piece that represented me as an artist. In this piece, the movement of the cranes evolving from a 2-D to a 3-D represents the process of how an artist comes up with an idea and then creates it. I wanted this piece to be an encouragement to let ideas come to life.

13.5" x 12" - Marker and Ink - Nov. 2012

A piece I created on my own in my Advanced Drawing class, I made this in conjunction with the Day of the Dead. I had seen plenty of portraits with Marilyn Monroe in sugarskull, and I figured Audrey needed some love.

Octopuses Treasure

"Octopuses Treasure"

11.5"x9" -Watercolor- Feb. 2013

This was a piece I did on my own. I was inspired by my love of octopuses and my experiences as a child visiting the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma. I wanted to merge a sense of innocent curiosity in this piece as well as a comment about pollution and the ‘throw-away’ culture we have today. I wanted this piece to have an impact the viewer to think about their trash differently and what one defines as garbage.

My Shoe Collection

"My Shoe Collection"
17"x14" - Graphite - Dec. 2012
This was a piece I did on my own. For my art classes at school, I had many sketchbook assignments that involved drawing still lifes, but I hadn't had much experience with a still life on a large piece. I also wanted to create a still life that represented me, hence my shoes as my subject. I chose each shoe in order to reflect a different part of my personality, and to just make it more interesting to look at versus the standard 'fruit bowl' still lifes.

Storybook Letter 'K'

"Storybook Letter 'K'"
11"x15" - Watercolor and Ink - Dec. 2012
This was a class assignment for my Design I class. The project was to create a design of a letter that looks like the lettering from a child's fairy tale book. I wanted to stick with a simple color scheme and also create a whimsical fairy tale scene that depicts a story for the viewer even from just looking at it.

Rainy Rose

"Rainy Rose"
9"x 7" - Rubber stamp Ink and Watercolor - 2011
This was a class assignment for my Painting I class. We were to create our own stamps by tracing our designs onto rubber and carving it out for the use of a stamp. Afterwards, we painted several of our stamps in with watercolors, and created a background for one of them. I chose this version of my stamp because the color scheme remained me of a rain cloud, hence the background.

15"x10" - Oil Pastels - Nov. 2012
This was a class assignment for my Design I class. the project was to make a create design with the use of a letter of the alphabet. It was an assignment that at first I didn't see how it was going to work out. but then I experimented with different patterns and created shapes out of the letter, which led to my final work here. It was an experience in the value of creativity out of a simple task.
